Out-of-Hours Emergency Call Out
Exterior paint is formulated to survive rain, frost, sunlight and surface movement, while interior paint is made for a smooth, washable, low-odour finish indoors, so the two are not interchangeable.
In the UK, late spring to early autumn usually gives the most reliable conditions for exterior painting. What decides a good painting day, though, is a dry surface, no rain before the paint sets and temperatures above the product’s minimum.
Preparing a damaged wall for painting starts with sorting the damage: fill what is only surface-deep, repair what is broken, and deal with damp or movement first, then seal, check and prime in the right order.
A checklist for everything around the paint itself: decisions to make before buying paint, problems to fix first, safety checks before sanding, and how to clear and protect the room.
Painting over wallpaper can work on sound, smooth paper such as well-stuck lining paper. Vinyl, patterned, loose or layered paper is usually better removed, because emulsion can lift seams and the paper shows through.
Disruption from painting an office or retail unit is mostly decided before work starts: which areas must stay open, when each zone is painted, and which products let rooms go back into use quickly.
